World Blood Donor Day 2015 By Vien007 On Health Tips

Why Donate Blood?

“Thank you for saving my life.”, yes you, I’m talking to you, you out there listening right now that has ever been a blood donor, once again I say “Thank you for saving my life.” Well Sunday the 14th of June was World Blood Donation Day.

The theme of this year’s World Blood Donation Day campaign is "Thank you for saving my life". It focuses on thanking blood donors who save lives every day through their blood donations and strongly encourages more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly with the slogan “Give freely, give often. Blood donation matters.” The campaign aims to highlight stories from people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood and people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so this year’s theme focuses on the power donors have to help those they may not know.

But as we commemorate the World Blood Donation Day here on City Health Tips with me Vien, put this at the back of your mind.

Many recipients are actually too young to thank those who have donated blood. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 65 percent of blood transfusions in low-income countries are given to children younger than 5 years old.
Another group that needs safe donated blood is new mothers. Globally, about 800 women die every day from complications of pregnancy or giving birth. Donated blood can help save their lives.
Edward Kelley, M.D., Ph.D., director of service delivery and safety at WHO, said in a statement.

“Safe blood transfusion is one of the key life-saving interventions that should be available for patients in need,” “Yet, equitable access to safe blood still remains a major challenge in many countries.” On that note, my tip for today is simple.
Become a donor by having a healthy lifestyle which includes you eating healthy, exercising and if you must have sex, use protection though abstinence would be a better guarantee, and above all, get a regular check up from time to time to make sure you are physically fit, and medically fit.
  • That’s all today on city health tips with me vien, remember You don't need a special reason to give blood; you just need your own reason. Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend. Some know that a family member or a friend might need blood some day. Some believe it is the right thing we do.
  • Whatever your reason, the need is constant and your contribution is important for a healthy and reliable blood supply. And you'll feel good knowing you've helped change a life
